A Breakout-like game but with a small twist at the end of the stage. Destroy all blocks to find out what the twist is!

Made with TIC-80 as an entry for the first Fennel game jam.

Instructions:

  • Movement: arrow keys
  • Launch ball: up arrow
  • Retry: A (z)

Hitting blocks gives you 10 points, and destroying a block grants 100. Each powerup also counts for 100 points. Collect 1000 points to earn one more life!

Powerups

Big Time - twice the size, twice the damage!

One ball is fine, but three is better!

You're now long (but not for long)

Slowdown - permanently decreases the ball's speed

Not so powerups

Speedup - permanently increases the ball's speed

Decrease board Length

(they still give you 100 points, so you might want them depending on your score)

Description

This is my first, more or less, complete game. I wanted to try making games for quite some time but never had enough momentum, so a goal for this project mainly was to put myself together and finally start with something complete with graphics, sound, and various powerups that alter gameplay a bit. Hope the results are fun!

Had a blast! Definitely thought that the twist was that the ball would tweak its trajectory to NEVER hit the last brick because good gods, I got down to the last brick with 3-5 lives more than four times and couldn't get it. When I finally did, I was like "Oh, this is fun!"

Yeah, the last brick gets me every time too :D

Definitely didn’t want to make it as hard but it is what it is. Glad you liked the twist!

may i make a suggestion?
maybe have more powerups, and make it so it doesnt start quite as fast. in exchange, make it so the slowdown powerup is more rare

thank you for your suggestion!

There’s a thing that this was a game jam entry, so I would not do any updates to it, it is an artifact of the process, and I’d like to keep it that way. Maybe if I will ever do another game of this genre I will definitely change a lot of things :)
